The exhibition “In Pursuit of Beauty, Los Angeles” consists of three stages: the first was an exhibition with US and Japanese artists in Tokyo “In Pursuit of Beauty” in August 2017, the second and current show is “In Pursuit of Beauty Los Angeles” with US artists exhibiting at SOLA, and the third stage is Japanese and US artist exhibiting jointly in August 2019 at SOLA Los Angeles.
I carefully selected 16 artists from the Los Angeles art scene to bring a representation to Japan of what LA art is all about. I also wanted these artists to experience the beauty of Japanese culture and I hoped that the beautiful aesthetics would be a big influence on their art. The exhibition in Tokyo, “In Pursuit of Beauty”, was a great success and this exhibition in Los Angeles is to rekindle the experience and friendships that were formed during our trip.
The artists will exhibit three artworks: one piece that was shown in Tokyo, one piece that was influenced by their experience in Tokyo, and one piece that represents them as LA artists.
